Diocesan Women of Distinction Celebration - The Springfield in Illinois Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (S.D.C.C.W.) is pleased to announce the Tenth Annual “Women of Distinction” Celebration on Saturday, June 5. This celebration honors one woman from each parish in the Springfield Diocese for her service to God, parish, and community. Your honoree does not need to belong to any parish women’s group. There are no selection rules. By this recognition, you are honoring one lady who represents all the women in your parish.
Mass begins at 10 a.m. celebrated by Bishop Paprocki at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield. Your parish priests and deacons may join Bishop Paprocki in celebrating the Mass. At the end of the Mass, the Bishop will present each honoree with a WOD Certificate. In addition to the 2021 honorees, this celebration will include the 2020 Women of Distinction. We already have the names of the 2020 honorees. The Cathedral will accommodate “in person” seating for honorees, guests, etc. and provide “streaming” for the Women of Distinction Celebration.
In order that your 2021 honoree’s name appear in the program booklet, the registration form must be received by April 26. Please send your parish registration form to Janet Zimmerman by April 26. Email: or by mail: 1213 Mildred Court; Springfield, IL 62712

Building the Kingdom, One House at a Time - SPRINGFIELD DEANERY CHECK THIS OUT! Building the Kingdom, one house at a time, is the theme for this year’s Catholic Build. Thanks to the generosity of Steve & Jodie Koch, this build is fully funded - permits are in and we are excited for the pouring of the foundation, soon! Volunteer opportunities will be posted on our VolunteerHub website as soon as the foundation is set. Says Msgr. David Hoefler, vicar general for the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois, "In a time when isolation is rising, the Kochs are bringing people together to focus on those who have nowhere to go to be safe. It also fits our diocesan theme of 'Be not afraid'."
The Partner Family we will be building with is Rhonda Davis. The build will be located at 946 S College, Springfield, next to another Habitat homeowner, Sundae Johnson. If you are unable to swing a hammer, we can always use Site Hosts and food providers. Get together with your friends to provide lunch for our volunteers and hang out with us on the build site during lunch! We ask that you keep Rhonda, the build and volunteers in your prayers.
Information is posted on the Diocesan website at www.catholicbuild.com/ or Habitat’s website www.habitatsangamon.com . Weather permitting, foundation will be poured soon and volunteers will be needed to install the floor joists and decking, projected end of March. For more information, please contact Susan Carrigan at 217-523-2710, ext. 213 or sign up for the Catholic Build E-Blast: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/su/TC8rmXD/builds. Start gathering a group from your parish to participate!

Short Tidbit from Project Rachel: The Diocese: Project Rachel and Related Programs: – How to Begin (or Strengthen) a Project Rachel Ministry in Your Diocese – Screening Professional Counselors and Therapists: This is important because a therapist who is unfamiliar with church teaching or who disagrees with some or all of it can cause great problems for women or men referred to them. One cannot assume that someone who works for a church agency, social service, or counseling program is Catholic, knowledgeable about church teaching, or is agreement with church teaching. Even those working is Catholic agencies hospitals, retreat centers, schools, and programs must be thoroughly screened. (PR Manual pg 58)
