Catechumenate (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the sacramental process for the pastoral formation and guidance, aimed at training new members in the Christian life.

These sacramental norms apply to the unbaptized who are 6 or 7 years of age and older.  They apply to the baptized uncatechized Catholics who are 6 or 7 years of age and older who were baptized in infancy but celebrated neither Confirmation nor First Holy Communion.  And they apply to the baptized Christians who are 6 and 7 years of age and seek to be received into the full communion of the Catholic Church.

These norms have been in place since 1988 in this diocese and in all the dioceses of the United States of America.

A person may contact any Catholic parish in the diocese to talk with someone about how to begin this process of formation. Click here to access the Parish Directory for the diocese.
